Q In this discussion, all you need is the Dominance of Science lecture and your own brain- no maps, paintings, or primary documents! I'd like you to really think about the word "Progress" as you answer the following questions: 1) Science has certainly solved many problems over the years. We wouldn't walk for Breast Cancer, for example, if we didn't think that progress was possible. What do you think is the most amazing scientific accomplishment to date and why? 2) Nineteenth Century Positivists believed that science would eventually solve every problem. But, sometimes science brings more questions than answers. Contraversies abound over things like cloning, nuclear weaponry, and even vaccination. What do you think the greatest challenge is for scientists today? Use examples. 3) How would YOU define "Progress"? Do you believe that science can explain everything? (Are you a Positivist?) Why? Respond to two other students. You may be surprised with what you find. I was surprised the first time I asked a class: "How many of you believe in Evolution?"
